Leave no one behind is one of the central aims of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). A slogan that is in many ways also at the core of library work all around the world. Libraries reach out to citizens in all corners of society and welcome all, trying not to “leave anyone behind”. Though much has been done, more can still be done to welcome multilingual citizens.
A Language Loving Library is a place and an environment where ALL languages are considered as a resource and taken advantage of when it comes to knowledge and knowledge sharing, co creation, democratic dialogues, social/cultural events, intercultural competences, literacy, reading, life long learning and much more.
“Language Loving Libraries” is not a formal project – yet – but I encourage anyone that would like to be part of the initiative/movement to contact me. I would like to build on my experiences of collaborative language and culture programs at libraries, schools and NGO‘s in Iceland and Denmark. Feel free to join our Facebook-group. The idea about Language Loving Libraries was introduced to a talk at the Next Library Conference at Dokk1 in May 2023.
